Youth Peer Support Group
Process Emotions with Peers
Pending funding, GreenTree desires to support young people who are experiencing mental distress or the desire to use drugs related to distress. In 2024, GreenTree called a Youth Advisory Committee to give input into the development of a safe, welcoming place where people could share their experiences and feelings with each other and trained peer specialists. These young people developed a Mission Statement and we are hopeful that we will be able to offer a special Youth Support opportunity regularly in time.
Youth peer-to-peer support is a great way to help young people move through tough and stressful times and is a good support for those who are experiencing mental health or substance use challenges.
Being in a guided setting among others with similar experiences can allow people to re-frame their big emotions (or even depressed emotions) and better regulate their responses to stressful situations. The result is stronger young people who are growing their own personal resilience. GreenTree is aware that many young people are going to emergency departments yet clinicians tell us that so many of these youths are needing support getting through hard situations rather than pathologizing hospitalization. We hope in time to help people move through the hardships of living in a tough world in ever-changing times. That is a big responsibility for anyone!
